ON FAMILY & FRIENDSHIP - Where Has Father Gone?

Where Has Father Gone?

I once knew a man focused on his family’s core.
Trips to Wild Water, the National Zoo,
and the theatre to watch Kung-Fu.
Camping, biking, and Ethiopian dinners, to name a few.
Fast forward ten years and such memories seem non-existent,
is this the same dad, who shows so much resistance?
Resistance to the ones he loves so dear,
strange way of displaying affection when it’s fear.
Fear of saying I love you to a daughter or a son.
A son who has committed years to make your vision come true
while putting his own to the side over an abundance of pride.
Pride in a father and his dream,
a father and his beliefs,
a father and his words of wisdom.
But those days are past tense.
It’s time to take pride in Self and nothing else
as my sisters become my targeted priority.

I ask again, Where Has Father Gone?

You have traded virtues of truth, tranquility, and harmony,
for riches, power, and lust.
Adopted a new household, one that you trust?
While your blood is crying out in pain.
The pain of emotions falling like rain.
You speak contempt about anybody to everybody,
which is bad business.
You talk a good game and blame everyone but Self.
Maybe it’s all your newfound wealth.
I thought in AA that the first step was to admission?

I ask again, Where Has Father Gone?
