Those established in Self-realization control their senses instead of letting their senses control them. If the senses are not controlled, the mind (or emotions) will follow where ever they lead - after immediate pleasure, which is at odds with long-term benefit. Eventually, a person following his senses loses strength of will and unity of purpose; his/her choices are dictated by the desire for pleasure; the mind becomes confused and scattered. Ultimately, this leads to spiritual destruction.
